Finnland!

We're back from Finnland - where we've (Mr Retchy and myself) spent an amazing 10 days - thanks to Edwina Goldstone, Artist and Friend, organizer of the Art-Hame 2013 /  U|ART workshop. The idea was to create an interdisciplinary workshop environment, where the element of play is central - the trying out of ideas and techniques is the point of the process, as opposed to the outcome, an idea very close to my way of working/understanding.

The starting ideas included an overhead projector, slide projector, transparent film, possibilities of freehand drawings + stop motion animation, and the help of professional dancers. They, and the projection tests led to us trying to use shadow puppets with live dancing, and then progress to stop motion human bodies dancing together with the puppets.
Our studio took place in an unused shop in the Riihimaki shopping center - which gave people the chance to have a peek at the work in progress, but the most amazing venue for the festival was the disused power station - Voimala - in the centre of Riihimaki.
Fantastic and inspiring - filled our heads with possibilities! Beautiful textures, light, space. Managed to make sketches and started out ideas for a possible series of screenprints.

Amazing time - super inspirational and thought-opening, lovely people to meet - huge thanks to Edwina! :-)
